I. Building the Bridge of Communication (10 Hours)

Now offering a 10 hour Continuing Education Unit (CEU) class with our partners at Rio Salado College.
This is a great class to use towards achieving your CDA! This class can be provided through our NCAP partnership or by attending one of our Summer or Spring Institutes.

Participants will learn how to support Early Brain Development, Early Literacy, and Classroom Management while incorporating American Sign Language (ASL) into their daily routines and literacy activities. Participants will be engaged through multi-sensory hands on learning approach. They will learn a variety of strategies, such as American Sign Language, music, and play to support all learning styles. Participants will leave with a better understanding of child development and ways to support the development of all children, including children with special needs and second language learners.

The Institute will be based on a combination of theoretical and practical ideologies and will provide each participant with 1 CEU, a value of $25.00. Participants will also learn up to 75+ signs in American Sign Language that they can use the next day in their classroom as well as receive Dr. Joseph Garcia’s Book, SIGN with your BABY; a value of $14.95 and includes 200 illustrated ASL signs. 

II. Supporting Young Children with Special Needs in Language and Cognitive Development (2 Hours)

Participants will be engaged through an interactive format and have fun learning new strategies to support language and cognitive development in their classroom by incorporating a variety of techniques to support young children with special needs. This session will be based on a combination of theoretical and practical ideologies.

Participants will be engaged through multi-sensory hands on learning approach. They will learn a variety of strategies, such as American Sign Language, music, and play to support all learning styles. Participants will leave with a better understanding of child development and ways to support the development of all children, including children with special needs and second language learners.

III. A Multi-Sensory Approach to Literacy (2 Hours)

Participants will increased their understanding of the connection between the reading and writing process and how to incorporate American Sign Language (ASL) as an effective strategy to support literacy, language acquisition, and cognitive and fine motor development in young children.

Participants will be engaged through an interactive format and have fun learning new strategies to support literacy in their classroom by incorporating American Sign Language, music, exploration, writing, learning centers, and read a-louds.

The presenters will actively engage participants as adult learners by incorporating activities that reach all learning modalities. We will accomplish this by using music and movement, American Sign Language, discussions, and share action research. This workshop is intended for Kindergarten through 3rd grade educators.

IV. Wiring the Brain for Early Literacy (2 Hours)

Participants will be engaged through an interactive format and have fun learning new strategies to support early literacy in their classroom by incorporating knowledge of early brain development, American Sign Language, Music and Movement, and Play. This session will be based on a combination of theoretical and practical ideologies and meets the Arizona Early Learning Standards. This workshop is intended for preschool and kindergarten educators.

V. Using Signs from American Sign Language in Preschool ~ Incorporating Music, Play and Story Time (1 ½ Hours)

Participants will be introduced to the benefits of using American Sign Language in a preschool program to enhance music, play, and story time as well as support positive classroom management. Participants will learn approximately 20 signs in this introductory workshop.

VI. Supporting Social-Emotional Development through Positive Classroom Management (2 hours)

Participants will be engaged through an interactive format and have fun learning new strategies to support positive classroom management in their classroom by incorporating knowledge of early brain development, American Sign Language, and social-emotional development. This session will be based on a combination of theoretical and practical ideologies.

Participants will be engaged through multi-sensory hands on learning approach. They will learn a variety of strategies, such as American Sign Language, music, and play to support all learning styles. Participants will leave with a better understanding of child development and ways to support the development of all children, including children with special needs and second language learners.

VII. The Experience of Music in Early Childhood (2 Hours)

Participants will learn how to incorporate music into an early childhood program to promote school readiness. They will explore the following topics:
• Musical activities that enhance development
• Musical activities that support literacy and math
• Incorporating music into daily routines and enriching the environment
• Encouraging musical families

VIII. The Power of Play in Early Childhood (2 Hours)

Participants will increase their understanding of the power of play in early childhood. They will learn strategies to support early brain development, ways to strengthen academics through play, and how to use American Sign Language, music, and play to support all young children. Participants will leave with a better understanding of child development and ways to support the development of all children, including children with special needs and second language learners.
